Olive House

Movie Quotes

Selda: “When I first came here, it was nice but then the summer had gone and the winter came, everybody retreated to their homes. It became so quite here and not promising for me. I mean I couldn’t practice my job as a teacher. I couldn’t get used to it. I had been having difficulties for
a long time. Sometimes I woke up in the morning and questioned myself
about what we were doing here. I did that for a long time.
Hakan: “She questioned herself by crying.”
Selda:Like what are we doing here, what will it happen, how long can we…
carry on like this? We didn’t have a job. I didn’t want to turn back but it seemed like we wouldn’t make it here either.
Hakan: Our parents thought that it was going to be bad when we came here.
Actually, they got worried. “You have your jobs, what are you
doing by leaving it? Everybody wants to move to city, you want
the opposite way.” Right? Selda’s parents got worried more,
I guess. Because she also changed cities by coming to İzmir.”
Selda: My father was telling me that here, it ain’t heaven either.
He was asking me what I was expecting. I told that I would have a much easier life. Then he askedif the bread is cheaper there. “What will you do? Bread costs the same wherever you go in Turkey.” For them, we studied and had our jobs, everything was going well. They were feeling at ease, they weren’t worried about us, about me.
